Happy New Year everyone!! I spent my New Years with a small group of friends playing board games and Rock Band. A great way to start the new year.
But here’s what I’ve been up to lately.
The final book in Marissa Meyer’s Lunar Chronicles finally arrived In November and it was soooo good and now I’m left all alone without a a series that I love and adore. Of course, Stars Above is coming out soon which is a compilation of short stories both new and old, and there will be a wedding…. A WEDDING!!!
Confession time. This scifi nerd has never seen all Star Wars movies. But I don’t care, and honestly, I probably won’t bother watching the first 6 movies. But I did go see the new movie and thought it was great. It’s no Star Trek (OMFG so excited for the new movie), but it was fun. JJ Abrams is my man. Plus, kick-ass female character.
In November Zack and I also ran off to Orlando for a 4 1/2 day marathon of 4 Disney parks and 2 Universal Parks. Pictures to come eventually.
Jane the Virgin
I’m currently binge watching the first season of this on netflix and it is adorable. I highly recommend it. It tells the story of Jane who has chosen to remain a virgin until married. One day when she goes to her doctor for her regular check up and is accidentally artificially inseminated with her boss’ baby. It sort of parodies Latin telenovelas and features multiple great characters and hilarious narration.
I hope everyone had a very merry Christmas!! I had a great day with family and was spoiled. I also scored some great books:
We didn’t even plan to visit the Met when we went to New York City. We had a city pass that got us into a bunch of places, and this was one of them so we figured, why not? I was blown away. The place is huge! Our feet were dead tired by this point in the trip, so we probably didn’t get as far as we could have in a day, but I don’t know if it’s possible to see the whole place in a day on good feet.
It’s hard to put into words how amazing this place is, so pictures!
There are buildings within the building:
There are rooms and rooms and rooms of weapons and armory that are so old and beautiful:
Themed parties are so much fun to throw. I become a bit of a fiend. When we decided to throw a Halloween party again this year (here’s last year’s party) I took to Pinterest. Then I discovered a Harry Potter themed party pin and I was a goner. With our (then) impending trip to Universal Studios in Orlando, Zack and I were both rereading through the HP books and watching the movies, so we were in full Potter mode.
With the help of one of my friends, I think we put together a pretty awesome party.
I started with the invites. It was just a facebook event, but I made a fun little ticket for the event header:
First, the costumes, of course Zack and I went as Harry and Hermione.
Our friends Steve and Suzanne went as death eaters. Also, I had a time turner, here’s a selfie with it on:
Hey guys, just checking in to let you know that I’m still alive, just haven’t been in the blogging mood. I didn’t want to force myself to blog because I consider this a hobby, and didn’t want it to become a chore. Instead of hopping on the computer each evening, I’ve been sitting in front the TV binge watching anything and everything (I just finished Leverage today and I miss it already, I need more!).
But today I went and got a new laptop! Yay! My last one died a year ago and I’ve just been using my desktop. So now I’m hoping to be a lot more productive while sitting on the couch. I’ve got plenty of book reviews to write, vacation photos to share (oh, we went to NYC earlier this month!), and plenty more. You should be hearing a lot more from me, and I have lots of blogs to catch up on, so give me a little to get this laptop up and running and get caught up ;)
I’m still alive!!! I’ve noticed that when I’m busy at work, I get really lazy at home. There’s been lots of Netflix in my life the last month. But I’m all caught up at work, there are no new people to train and my coworker isn’t out so it’s time to get some shit done.
Yes, I survived camping last week. Barely. There was a frost warning the first night and I almost froze to death and then got sick. Plus, my eink kindle died *dies* so I’m on the hunt for a new one.
Anywho, here is my April in Instagram. Yes I’m a month late. Deal with it ;)
I’ve kinda let the blog fall the the side lately. Sorry about that. It’s a combination of things but the last couple of weeks I’ve been working a bit of overtime and by the time I get home and eat dinner I just want to veg in front of the TV. The next couple of weeks are going to be the same with my co-worker going on vacation and training another new person. But I’ll try, I promise.
Anyway, here’s what I’ve been up to lately…
Glamourist Histories Series – I recently started reading through this series by Mary Robinette Kowal. It’s basically like a Jane Austen novel but with magic. I devoured the first 90% of “Shades of Milk and Honey” and then it all went horribly wrong and I was so upset. I think she was trying to make it too Pride & Prejudice-y and I just don’t like the guy she ends up with. I’ve read the next couple of books and they’re alright, just not great. I won’t go out of my way to read the fourth. “Shades of Milk & Honey” – 4 Stars
“Glamour In Glass” – 3 Stars
“Without A Summer” – 3 Stars
Shiver – 3 Stars – I’ve seen this one floating around the blogosphere as a fav among many book bloogers. I was never interested because of the paranormal aspect. Werewolves? No thanks (although I love Gail Carriger’s Finishing School series which has werewolves in it). But when I saw this one available from my library in audiobook format I figuredI’d give it a go. I went in with low expectations, figuring I’d probably end up secretly really liking it… but it’s nothing to get excited about. Not much happens in the first 90% of the book. It’s all insta love about a girl sneaking a guy into her room every night. I’d probably still audiobook the next 2 books but I wouldn’t pay to buy the books.
Pitch Perfect 2 – I saw this on Friday and LOVED it. I was crying with laughter. It’s always great when sequels are just as good. Apparently it did better it’s opening weekend than the first movie did during it’s entire theatre run which is awesome! It also deserves props cause it’s the second most successful opening weekend for a female directed movie. Girl power! I also adore Fat Amy and there were a few Aussie jokes in it that went over most peoples’ heads which was more fun for me.
Reign – OMG. I started this on netflix and devoured the entire first season in 48 hours. It’s been a while since I binge watched anything and it felt lazy but SO good. It’s about Mary, queen of Scots living in France in the 1500s where she’s engaged to the prince of France. It’s very much focused on relationships and romance and I’m sure it is horribly historically inaccurate. Plus, they’re all French and Scottish, but all have Brittish accents. But it’s very addicting. I’m totally in love with Bash. Plus, it has aussie Caitlin Stasey and Anna Popplewell from the Narnia movies.
I’m still making my way through season 2 which I seem to have lost my steam on, but I really like this series!
Star Crossed– I stumbled across this show on Netflix this weekend and watched the entire series, lol. I’d never heard of it before. It’s about a bunch of aliens that crashed on Earth and to try and assimilate them, a group of teenagers are let out of their facility to attend a local school. And of course one of them falls in love with a human. It was a CW midseason show about a year ago that never made it past its original 13 episode order. It was enjoyable, nothing too amazing. Aimee Teegarden (Friday Night Lights) played the lead and it had cute boys (which I’m allowed to say because even though they’re playing teens, the actors are all actually older than me. So it’s not weird, k?).
Tyrannosauruslexxx – I’ve recently started watching this vlog and I think she’s adorable and fun. Makes me want to vlog, but I’m terribly awkward and camera shy, so it won’t happen.
So that’s me lately. Apparently we’re going camping next weekend. Like in a tent. It’s going to ba an adventure.
What have you been up to lately? And what should I binge watch next?
