Heyo! This Samantha Lately I’m linking up! I’ve been meaning to join in on this forever, but life happens.

What's New With You

A few weeks ago we celebrated my nephew Rylan’s baptism. Zack and I are his godparents!

And then a couple of days later I officially became a US Citizen! Now I just need to get a US passport, change my name in Australia, then get my Australian passport updated with my married name. UGH.

The Vampire Diaries

This is my current binge watch. I’m about half way through season 3 (Team Damon obvs. I’m so over Steffan).

Vampire Diaries

Is “The Originals” any good?

Ahhh! Their new CD is out next week!

I quite like their most recent single “Good Grief” even though the music video is weird AF

Currently Reading

You're never weird150I just finished “You’re Never Weird on the Internet (Almost)” by Felicia Day on audiobook and adored it. I love Felicia Day, even more so after reading this! I’m not quite sure how audible works when there are pictures? Are they available somewhere to download?? Thankfully I have a copy of the book too cause there are some funny pictures that go with it.

But she talks a bunch about her crazy upbringing and finding her way to internet videos, as well as some more serious topics like depression. I highly recommend the audiobook, Felicia Day narrates it and makes it so much more Felicia.

Anywho, have I mentioned that I’ve also met Felicia? She’s so adorable!

Woooo!!! We’re heading to Disney again in November!!!! I can’t wait!

What have you been up to lately?

Oh hello. 2 months? What?? You’re crazy! Anywho…

I’m still around. I guess I’ve been up to a few things lately:

Hells yea! We went to Europe!! Lots of photos and details to come, but we had an amazing, crazy two weeks.

TV – True Blood

This is my latest binge watch. I’m up to season 5. I watched through season 1 back in the day, but gave up early in season 2. I don’t think it’s as good as when it first started, and I must say I really don’t like Bill at all, someone put a stake in that guy (Team Eric!). Also, I have loved Ryan Kwanten since I was 12 and he was on Home and Away in Australia, and I think he’s fantastic on this show.

Books – My Lady Jane

OMFG “My Lady Jane” by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton and Jodi Meadows is an absolute riot. I can’t recommend this book enough. This is the not entirely true story of 16 year old Lady Jane Grey, cousin of King Edward, who is about to be married off to a stranger and becomes queen of England for 9 days. There’s a bit of a fantasy twist thrown in to make it even more fun and ridiculous. It’s so clever and hilarious, and you should be reading it already.

Book Con

I don’t think I ever mentioned it, but I went to Book Con back in May. It was pretty crazy, but I achieved my one goal: I got Marissa Meyer’s autograph and as a bonus I got an ARC of Heartless!! I haven’t read it yet, but soon! (Ignore this horribly unflattering photo of me).

That’s all for now. Lots of vacay photos to come, and I will finally get to my awesome new library/craft room. I promise.

Happy New Year everyone!! I spent my New Years with a small group of friends playing board games and Rock Band. A great way to start the new year.

But here’s what I’ve been up to lately.

The final book in Marissa Meyer’s Lunar Chronicles finally arrived In November and it was soooo good and now I’m left all alone without a a series that I love and adore. Of course, Stars Above is coming out soon which is a compilation of short stories both new and old, and there will be a wedding…. A WEDDING!!!

Star Wars

Confession time. This scifi nerd has never seen all Star Wars movies. But I don’t care, and honestly, I probably won’t bother watching the first 6 movies. But I did go see the new movie and thought it was great. It’s no Star Trek (OMFG so excited for the new movie), but it was fun. JJ Abrams is my man. Plus, kick-ass female character.

Universal/Disney World

In November Zack and I also ran off to Orlando for a 4 1/2 day marathon of 4 Disney parks and 2 Universal Parks. Pictures to come eventually.

Jane the Virgin

I’m currently binge watching the first season of this on netflix and it is adorable. I highly recommend it. It tells the story of Jane who has chosen to remain a virgin until married. One day when she goes to her doctor for her regular check up and is accidentally artificially inseminated with her boss’ baby. It sort of parodies Latin telenovelas and features multiple great characters and hilarious narration.

I hope everyone had a very merry Christmas!! I had a great day with family and was spoiled. I also scored some great books:

So much to catch up on!

This was my binge watch last month and a large reason why I’ve accomplished nothing lately. If you haven’t seen it, you should just go watch it right now. Yes, you can even stop reading this to go watch, but you have to come chat with me about it after and how much you love Parker. It’s all on Netflix, so you have no excuse not to.

It’s about a bunch of thieves who start working together and conning the “bad guys” aka the rich and powerful who take advantage of the little people, and sort of take revenge. It’s so quirky and fun.

The Mentalist

I’ve been wanting to catch up on this show for years. I watched the first couple of seasons when the show started and then got behind. I finally scored the first 4 seasons at the library and I can’t stop. Patrick Jane is love. Simon Baker gets bonus points because he’s Australian. I’m on season 5 now, so no spoilers… you won’t like me when I’m angry.

Previous psychic and con man Patrick Jane is on a mission to catch serial killer Red John who killed his wife and daughter. He works with the CBI team to solve high profile murders, using his keen observations and “mentalist” abilities. In exchange for continuing to work with them, Patrick has full access to the ongoing Red John case. The fun twist is Jane’s off the books schemes to set the murderers up to reveal themselves.

A part of me is like “OMG! Why haven’t we gotten Red John yet??”. Another part of me is crazy impressed that they’ve kept this arc successfully going for so long.

Fortune’s Pawn – Rachel Bach

FortunesPawn150I’ve been aching to read this one for a while, and I wasn’t disappointed. I’ve wanted a good space ship adventure and this is it! I wouldn’t say it was OMG amazing, but it has a kick-ass female protag, space ships, guns, aliens, mysterious hot guy…

Devi Morris has ambition, and she’ll take on the deadliest security job if it gets her on the fast track to the job of her dreams. Once she joins the crew on a small trade ship, Devi quickly learns that the ship really is a magnet for trouble, but there’s something going on behind the scenes, and she’s determined to figure out the truth.

I had bought books 2 and 3 before I even finished. I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump, but I plan to read them next.

Tea Party Shower

Last week was finally the tea party bridal shower I’ve been working on for months. It went fairly well and I plan to share some of the details soon!

And that’s about it… honestly it’s been not much but watching TV and cross-stitching. I live on the wild side.

Vacation photos are coming soon!

I’ve kinda let the blog fall the the side lately. Sorry about that. It’s a combination of things but the last couple of weeks I’ve been working a bit of overtime and by the time I get home and eat dinner I just want to veg in front of the TV. The next couple of weeks are going to be the same with my co-worker going on vacation and training another new person. But I’ll try, I promise.

Anyway, here’s what I’ve been up to lately…

ShadesofMilkandHoneyGlamourist Histories Series – I recently started reading through this series by Mary Robinette Kowal. It’s basically like a Jane Austen novel but with magic. I devoured the first 90% of “Shades of Milk and Honey” and then it all went horribly wrong and I was so upset. I think she was trying to make it too Pride & Prejudice-y and I just don’t like the guy she ends up with. I’ve read the next couple of books and they’re alright, just not great. I won’t go out of my way to read the fourth.
“Shades of Milk & Honey” – 4 Stars
“Glamour In Glass” – 3 Stars
“Without A Summer” – 3 Stars

Shiver Shiver – 3 Stars – I’ve seen this one floating around the blogosphere as a fav among many book bloogers. I was never interested because of the paranormal aspect. Werewolves? No thanks (although I love Gail Carriger’s Finishing School series which has werewolves in it). But when I saw this one available from my library in audiobook format I figuredI’d give it a go. I went in with low expectations, figuring I’d probably end up secretly really liking it… but it’s nothing to get excited about. Not much happens in the first 90% of the book. It’s all insta love about a girl sneaking a guy into her room every night. I’d probably still audiobook the next 2 books but I wouldn’t pay to buy the books.

I’ve read a bunch more books, add me on Goodreads to see them all.

Pitch Perfect 2 – I saw this on Friday and LOVED it. I was crying with laughter. It’s always great when sequels are just as good. Apparently it did better it’s opening weekend than the first movie did during it’s entire theatre run which is awesome! It also deserves props cause it’s the second most successful opening weekend for a female directed movie. Girl power! I also adore Fat Amy and there were a few Aussie jokes in it that went over most peoples’ heads which was more fun for me.

ReignReign – OMG. I started this on netflix and devoured the entire first season in 48 hours. It’s been a while since I binge watched anything and it felt lazy but SO good. It’s about Mary, queen of Scots living in France in the 1500s where she’s engaged to the prince of France. It’s very much focused on relationships and romance and I’m sure it is horribly historically inaccurate. Plus, they’re all French and Scottish, but all have Brittish accents. But it’s very addicting. I’m totally in love with Bash. Plus, it has aussie Caitlin Stasey and Anna Popplewell from the Narnia movies.

I’m still making my way through season 2 which I seem to have lost my steam on, but I really like this series!

Star Crossed– I stumbled across this show on Netflix this weekend and watched the entire series, lol. I’d never heard of it before. It’s about a bunch of aliens that crashed on Earth and to try and assimilate them, a group of teenagers are let out of their facility to attend a local school. And of course one of them falls in love with a human. It was a CW midseason show about a year ago that never made it past its original 13 episode order. It was enjoyable, nothing too amazing. Aimee Teegarden (Friday Night Lights) played the lead and it had cute boys (which I’m allowed to say because even though they’re playing teens, the actors are all actually older than me. So it’s not weird, k?).

Star Crossed

Tyrannosauruslexxx – I’ve recently started watching this vlog and I think she’s adorable and fun. Makes me want to vlog, but I’m terribly awkward and camera shy, so it won’t happen.

So that’s me lately. Apparently we’re going camping next weekend. Like in a tent. It’s going to ba an adventure.

What have you been up to lately? And what should I binge watch next?

Samantha Lately #2

Samantha Lately is a recurring feature where I share 5 things I’ve been into recently. Here are my latest likes.

1. PaperbackSwap.com

PBBookSwapI learned of this awesome site from Kristen. You list any books you’re looking to get rid of. For every book you send someone you get 1 credit which you can use to get other books from other people (1 credit = 1 book). When you start up you get 1 credit for listing 5 books and another for the next 5. So basically all you have to pay for is the cost to send out books. And it’s a great way to find certain copies of books. I used it to get all of the Dover-Thrift editions of Jane Austen’s books. Cause I’m crazy.

2. Heart of Dixie

My latest Netflix binge. I’m not absolutely in love with it, but it’s good to throw on when I have nothing better to do, or to put on in the background when I’m working on a project.

It’s about a young woman who wants to be a heart surgeon, but is told that she needs more heart to deal with patients, so she moves to a small town where she inherits a small practice and must learn to fit into the quirkiness of a small town.

3. The Mowgli’s

Zck and I saw The Mowgli’s back in October when they opened for American Authors. I thought they were pretty good, and Zack gave me thier CD for Christmas. It’s very upbeat and catchy. You may have hear their song San Francisco before:

4. Audiobook: Lady Knight by Tamora Pierce

Lady KnightLast year I discovered the awesomeness of audio books. It’s a great way to “read” when you can’t be sitting, holding a book. I’ve started listening to books every morning for about 30 minutes when I get ready for work and while I’m doing laundry. I’ve also discovered that they’re great to listen to while I’m running. It’s a god way to focus on the story instead of how horrible I am at running.

I’m currently listening to Tamora Pierce’s “Lady Knight” the 4th book in the Protector of the Small series. It’s nothing amazing, but an easy series to listen to.

5. Dragon Age

I’m not really a video gamer. I can count on one hand the games that I’ve actually played through and finished. But Dragon Age is my fav! I’ve played through the first game two times (ok, the first time I just couldn’t beat the Dragon at the end). So Dragon Age Inquisition recently came out and I’m super excited to play it. We have it, but I’ve stubbornly decided to replay through 1 and 2 (I actually got stuck on my first play through of 2 as well) before I play it. But Zack has been playing through 3 and I keep seeing it and it looks awesome.

Anyway, any chance I get to play, I’ve been making my way through the first one and I’m just loving hanging out with my video game boyfriend Allistair again (shhh…. don’t tell me if he’s in 3 or not, I want to be surprised!). My Elf rogue and Allistair will be lovers! Ahem… anyone else play these games?

So what have you guys been into lately?
